Thugs of Hindostan is an upcoming 2018 Indian epic action-adventure film written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. It is based on Philip Meadows Taylor’s 1839 novel Confessions of a Thug, and stars Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. It is set to be released during Diwali on 8 November 2018.
The film’s plot is based on Philip Meadows Taylor’s 1839 novel Confessions of a Thug, about a thug (also known as a thuggee) called Azad, whose gang of thugs posed a serious challenge to the British Empire in India during the early 19th century. The film tells a fictional story set between 1790 and 1805.

The film’s production budget is ₹3 billion (US$42 million), making it the most expensive Yash Raj Films productions, along with Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). Filming commenced on 5 June 2017 in Malta. The film will be shot in Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur. It is also being shot in Thailand. The film’s climax will be filmed in Rajasthan.
Amitabh Bachchan suffered with neck and back pain due to the heavy clothing and stunts in the film.
This is Khan’s second time collaborating with Vijay Krishna Acharya and Katrina Kaif, after Dhoom 3 (2013). The film will have a dance sequence featuring Bachchan, choreographed by Prabhu Deva. It will also reportedly feature sea battles similar to ones seen in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean.
Jackie Shroff was to be a part of the film, but had to turn the role down due to conflicting commitments.
It is scheduled to release on 8 November 2018 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu with 3D & IMAX formats.
The Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) marketing team began their official promotions of the film on Monday, 17 September 2018: an official logo and title card was revealed on YRF’s official YouTube channel. The following day, 18 September, an official motion poster of Khudabaksh (Amitabh Bachchan), one of the movie’s lead characters, was released. This would be the start of a systematic marketing campaign that would introduce the film’s characters to the general public consistently throughout the week, via motion posters. On 19 September, the second character to be revealed was the archer Zafira (Fatima Sana Shaikh).
